The Australia India Chamber of Commerce (AICC) was proud to support the University Accord presentation at the NSW Parliament Theatrette in Sydney. Distinguished speakers from the Education & Training sector discussed the Federal Government's report and explained its nuances.
The session was opened by Deep Mukherjee, co-convenor of the AICC Education & Training National Industry Group, and who set the context of the seminar and introduced the speakers. Fellow co-convenor, Professor Patricia Davidson, was the first speaker. She introduced the topic and set the agenda on the reforms in the sector. She shared her experiences as the University of Wollongong, which was the first university from Australia to set up an off shore campus in India.
AICC Board Member, Harish Rao, explained the goals of the Australia India Chamber of Commerce. He also expanded on the chamber's trailblazing work in the promotion and development of bilateral trade and investment. This is not only within the Education & Training vertical sector, but also the other industry verticals.
The event was also attended by Professor Barney Glover AO, co-author of the University Accord. Professor Glover explained in detail the way ahead on key features of the report. He was followed by Luke Sheehy of Universities Australia. Mr Sheehy explained how Australian universities as well vocational education providers will, in the future, make students employable and create a global work force in Australia and beyond.
The final speaker was Natasha Bhaskar. Ms Bhaskar introduced case studies in the education and training sector. She highlighted the opportunities between Australia and India in relation to higher education as well as skilled work force development.
It was a great event with large participation of people from the education and skills sector.
